Effect of ^(137)Cs Whole Body Irradiation on the Peripheral Blood

Abstract
Radiobioloical effect of Cs whole body irradiation was assessed with obxrvation on the peripheral blood pattern. Following irradiation of total amount of 800 R and 400 R respectively, in single and fractionated doses to the rabbits. peripheral blood pattern was studied for twenty days, with the results as follows.
1. Erythrocyte showed slight decreax from three to ten days following single irradiation, while the decrease was less pronounced in fractionated irradiation. Slight decreax of reticulocyte count was also shown is single irradiation group. while it was alanost negligible in divided irradiation group.
2. Both single and divided irradiation were followed by marked decreax of leukocyte count from one to five post-irradiation days. follawed by gradual return to normal thereafter. Percentile differential count showed that the decreax of lymphocyte count observed from one to three post-irradiation days was less marked in fractionated than in single irradiation group.
3. Mild decrease of thromboeyte count was showed from one to xvea days following single irradiation and grow seven to ten days following divided irrad~tion. Hemoglobin value was below normal level- from three to fifteen days after irradiation. though decreaseafter single irradiation was more marked than that after divided irradiation.
4. Effect of Cs whole body¢¥ irradiationis, it can be inferred from this experimental result, almost proportional to the doxs given and fractionated irradiation was less harmful than the single total irradiation on in the same doses.
